Burbank, Calif. – Fans who attended the 2013 Comic-Con Convention were given a treat when director Zack Snyder revealed the upcoming DC mash-up film Batman vs. Superman in a surprise appearance.
The new movie is intended to be the follow-up movie to the Man of Steel, which debuted in theaters on June 14, 2013. Henry Cavil, who starred as Superman in the Man of Steel will reprise his role, however, his long-time ally in justice, the Dark Knight, will join him this time. Zack Snyder did not confirm who would be cast to play the role of Batman during the convention’s panel.
However, on August 22nd, 2013, Variety magazine confirmed an announcement from Warner Bros. stating that Ben Affleck has been tapped to play Batman in the upcoming movie. The film is currently known as Batman vs. Superman although no word has been given on whether or not this will be the final title of the film. Surprisingly, this marks the first time that the two heroes will appear together on the big screen even though both characters have been around since the 1930’s.
Warner Bros. also announced that the release date for the summer blockbuster will be July 17th, 2015. While this seems like a far off date, it has not kept hardcore fans from buzzing about who could appear as the villain that the two crime fighters must come together to defeat – or if the two heroes will indeed be pitted against each other. Regardless of the outcome, Batman vs. Superman is sure to make for a memorable experience for these two iconic comic book legends. The film is based on the Superman and Batman characters, which are owned and published by DC Entertainment.
